Peripheral Neuropathy

What does Peripheral Neuropathy PN feel like and how to treat without harmful medications

What is Peripheral Neuropathy?

Neuropathy is basically nerve damage. Many individuals that suffer from Diabetes will often develop Diabetic Neuropathy. (Note: you do not have to have Diabetes to have Neuropathy, but the two conditions are often associated).

Diabetic Neuropathy usually affects the feet, ankle and lower limbs but can affect other areas in the body as well, like your thighs, hips, and even internal organs.

There are four types of Diabetic Neuropathy: peripheral, autonomic, proximal, and focal.

  1. Peripheral Neuropathy affects the extremities like your fingers and toes. This form of neuropathy is most often found in the feet, ankles and lower limbs.
  2. Autonomic Neuropathy affects the organs of the body, like your lungs, intestines, liver, sex organs and even your heart.
  3. Proximal Neuropathy affects the one side of the body in the thighs, hips, and buttocks leaving you feeling "weak in the legs".
  4. Focal Neuropathy is usually a temporary even affecting nerves in any part of the body. Thighs, chest, eyes, pelvis, lower back, chest, legs feet, the abdomen and even your ears.

Causes of Neuropathy in your Feet:

High glucose levels in the blood can start too damage the cells and tissues in muscles, joints and nerve endings.

Damage to nerve endings is common in the feet and can develop into numbness, tingling and even a complete lack of touch sensitivity.

Gradually the numbness and lack of sensitivity may cause cuts, puncture wounds and other foot injures to go unnoticed. This can create secondary foot conditions and health complications.
